’’کب سے تم نے پودوں کو پانی نہیں لگایا۔ تنخواہ کس بات کی لیتے ہو؟‘‘
’’ابھی لگا دیتا ہوں۔‘‘

ماں نے سنا نہیں ۔ ہاتھ پہلوؤں پر رکھے پودوں کا جائزہ لیتے ہوئے برہمی سے بولیں۔
’’ویسے یہ ظہیر انتہائی ناشکرا آدمی ہے۔‘‘
’’اُف ماں۔ اس کا کیا ذکر یہاں۔‘‘ وہ کراہی۔
’’پرسوں چارسدہ سے گڑ آیا تھا۔ میں نے اسے بھجوایا۔ کل اس کو مل بھی گیا لیکن مجال ہے کہ اس نے شکریے کا فون کیا ہو۔‘‘
مالا کا دماغ بھک سے اڑ گیا۔ وہ ساکت رہ گئی۔
’’واٹ؟ ماں آپ نے۔۔۔ ظہیر کو گڑ بھجوایا ہے؟‘‘
وہ تینوں بوگن ویلیا کے گلابی پھولوں والے درخت کے ساتھ کھڑے تھے۔ کیف خاموشی سے باری باری دونوں کو دیکھ رہا تھا۔
’’کیوں؟ ہمیشہ بھیجتی ہوں۔ اب نیا کیا ہے۔‘‘ وہ چڑچڑی لگ رہی تھیں۔
کشمالہ مبین کو جلدی غصہ نہیں آیا کرتا تھا۔ وہ یا تو ہنس دیتی یا تحمل سے بات بدل دیا کرتی تھی۔ یا اس جگہ سے اٹھ جایا کرتی تھی۔ لیکن یہ اس کی برداشت سے باہر تھا۔ اس کا چہرہ سرخ ہونے لگا۔
’’ماں آپ نے یہ کیا کیا؟ وہ کیا سوچے گا؟‘‘ اسے یقین نہیں آ رہا تھا۔
’’اس کو شکر یہ کہنے کی توفیق پھر بھی۔۔۔۔‘‘
’’ماں آپ میرے ساتھ ایسا کیسے کر سکتی ہیں۔ آپ کو میرے کام کی نہیں سمجھ آتی مان لیا۔ لیکن میری عزت بے عزتی کا خیال تو کرنا تھا۔ اچھا شرمندہ کروایا ہے آپ نے مجھے۔‘‘ اس کی آنکھیں بھیگنے لگیں۔ ’’اس آدمی نے میرے ساتھ اتنا بڑی زیادتی کی اور آپ اس کو گڑ بھیج رہی ہیں۔ وہ سمجھے گا میں اس کی منت کر رہی ہوں اب۔ واٹ!‘‘
“Since when have you not watered the plants? What are you talking about?”
“I’ll water it now.”
“Why now? Do you water it in the evening or in the morning?” She muttered and turned towards the plants. She stood there hesitantly. Go, my friend.
She, who was watching all this with a smile, got up and came towards them.
“Mom... Saleem will water the plants. Kaif has to do his work. Let him go.”
Mom didn’t hear. She spoke angrily while examining the plants with her hands on her sides.
“By the way, this Zaheer is a very ungrateful man.”
